Job Summary
Bourgeois Guitars is seeking careful, detail-oriented, and quality-driven people to join our Finish Department in Lewiston, Maine. We are open to experienced finishers with backgrounds in wood finishing, automotive finishing, cabinet finishing, furniture finishing, guitar finishing, or similar spray finish work. Experience with polyurethane, pre-catalyzed urethanes, acrylics, nitrocellulose lacquers, or other professional finish systems is preferred. We are also willing to train the right entry-level candidate who has strong attention to detail, a good attitude, and a desire to learn.

Available Positions

Entry-Level Finish Department Assistant – Key Responsibilities (Will train the right candidate)

  • Assist with finish preparation, sanding, masking, handling, and movement of instruments through the finish process.

  • Support spray booth and finish room workflow.

  • Learn proper surface preparation, sanding standards, and material handling techniques.

  • Perform visual quality checks and communicate issues clearly to supervisors and team members.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe finish environment.

  • Support daily production goals and team workflow.

Experienced Wood, Auto, or Industrial Finisher – Key Responsibilities

  • Perform finish preparation and spray finish work on high-end acoustic guitars.

  • Apply and work with professional finish systems, including polyurethane, pre-catalyzed urethanes, acrylics, nitrocellulose lacquers, and other coatings.

  • Use spray equipment and finishing materials safely, consistently, and with attention to detail.

  • Prepare surfaces for finish, including sanding, masking, inspection, and correction of minor defects.

  • Maintain finish quality while supporting production schedules.

  • Identify finish issues, communicate problems clearly, and help troubleshoot solutions.

  • Maintain spray equipment, work areas, and finish department cleanliness standards.

  • Work independently on assigned tasks while supporting the overall team.

Additional Responsibilities for All Positions

  • Work carefully around high-value instruments and delicate materials.

  • Maintain consistent quality standards from instrument to instrument

  • Follow all safety policies, PPE requirements, and finish room procedures.

  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of unnecessary dust or contamination.

  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and other departments.

  • Support a team culture built around craftsmanship, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Ideal Candidates

  • Experience in wood finishing, automotive finishing, cabinet finishing, furniture finishing, guitar finishing, or manufacturing preferred.

  • Experience with polyurethane, pre-catalyzed urethanes, acrylics, nitrocellulose lacquers, or similar finish systems preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work.

  • Patience, consistency, and willingness to follow established processes

  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

  • Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.

  • Mechanical aptitude or familiarity with spray equipment is a plus.

  • Interest in woodworking, guitars, music, or craft-based manufacturing is a plus.

Pay & Benefits

  • $20–$26+ per hour, depending on level and experience. Higher earnings potential as skills and responsibilities increases.
