Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on individual to join our orchestral string shop as a full-time Polisher working with Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass. The primary responsibility of this position is to polish and finish instruments to a high standard, as well as perform a final quality inspection. The work requires physical stamina, manual precision, consistency, and exceptional attention to detail. No prior luthier experience is required. We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic, careful hands-on skills, and a willingness to learn.
Important Note About Advancement
This is a full-time Polisher position, and applicants should be comfortable with polishing being their primary and ongoing responsibility. The shop may provide opportunities for employees to learn additional instrument-preparation, setup, adjustment, or finishing skills as staffing needs and workload permit. Such opportunities are based on both shop requirements and demonstrated skill proficiency and are not guaranteed.
Key Responsibilities
Polish instruments to a high standard
Perform careful final inspections and identify quality issues
Document work performed and quality issues using basic Excel
Develop and maintain proficiency in polishing techniques
Follow established shop procedures, work orders, and quality standards
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
Qualifications & Skills
Exceptional Attention to detail
Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
Physical fitness and stamina; polishing requires sustained upper-body endurance
Ability to perform careful, consistent, and repetitive hands-on work
Ability to follow detailed instructions and work orders
Basic computer and record-keeping skills
Dependability and willingness to learn and accept instruction
String-instrument or lutherie experience is a plus, but not required
